Frequently asked questions
What is Recall?
Recall is a mobile app that turns your study material into flashcards for you. Snap a photo of your notes, slides, or a textbook page, or just type a topic, and it builds a ready-to-study deck of 8–14 cards in seconds. Then it schedules every card with spaced repetition so you review each one right before you'd forget it.
How is it different from Anki or Quizlet?
Classic flashcard apps make you write every card yourself, which is the part most people quit on. Recall does the making: AI reads your photo or topic and drafts a mix of sharp question-and-answer and fill-in-the-blank cards that you can trim and edit before saving. The review scheduling uses the same proven SM-2 spaced-repetition approach that made Anki famous.
What kinds of photos work?
Clear handwriting, lecture slides, whiteboards, and textbook pages work best. Recall only makes cards from what's actually on the page; it won't invent material that isn't there.
What happens to my photos?
They're used once to extract your cards and never stored. The image is sent securely to our server, processed by the AI model, and discarded. Only the resulting flashcards are kept.
Do I need an account to start?
No. Recall works the moment you open it. Creating an account is optional: add an email and password only when you want your decks, review history, and streak to survive a lost phone or follow you to a new device. Everything you made as a guest carries over.
How does the spaced repetition work?
After you flip a card you rate it: again, hard, good, or easy. Each rating reschedules that card. Misses come back within minutes, and easy cards drift out to weeks or months. Over time you spend your study minutes only on the cards that need them.
What is “Explain this”?
When a card just won't stick, one tap gets you a short, plain-language explanation with a memory hook. It's built into the review screen so you never leave your session.
What does it cost?
Recall is free. There are generous hourly limits on AI card generation to keep the service healthy; if you hit one, it resets within the hour.
Does it work offline?
Building new decks and syncing need a connection, since the AI runs on our servers. If you're offline, finish your commute and generate when you're back online.
Which platforms is it on?
Recall is coming to iOS and Android. Grab the badges on the home page to be first in line.
